The Small Molecule Analytical group provides analytical insights into microbial strains, bioproducts, food applications, and processes for producing diverse bioproducts like sweeteners, enzymes, vitamins, probiotics and dairy cultures.

The team is responsible for developing, performing and implementing analytical methods for small molecules (metabolites, lipids, carbohydrates) in complex microbial and food matrices including point-of-need analytics. The team applies advanced analytical workflows using i.e. LC, GC, MS and NMR including sample preparation and data handling and maintains a state-of-the-art infrastructure.

As part the Center of Analytical Innovation (CAI), the Small Molecule Analysis team is looking for a:

The Challenge

In your role as technician LC/GC in the Small Molecule Analysis team, you perform chromatographic analyses including sample preparation for quantification of a broad range of chemical and biochemical products in different complex biological matrices.

You accurately conduct LC/GC analyses with different detection techniques like UV, RI, FID, and MS according to a defined method of analysis. This includes preparation of the samples delivered by the customer, independently operating the LC/GC systems, processing and interpreting of the data using dedicated software packages, reporting to the customer and archiving of the data according to a defined data management plan. You work according to the DSM QESH (Quality, Environment, Safety, Health) policy, the laboratory housekeeping rules and contribute to the maintenance of the general laboratory as well as our equipment.

Where relevant, you adapt and validate methods of analysis (including sample preparation) to meet project/customer needs under the supervision of a Lab Specialist and/or Scientist.

The Ideal

We are looking for someone with a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or an HBO degree in analytical chemistry. Experience with LC and LC-MS, chromatographic data handling software is recommended. Experience with GC (FID and/or MS) is a plus. You are critical of the quality of your data and you show a high level of ownership. Ideally, you are a customer-oriented team worker with good communication and reporting in English, who is flexible, has problem-solving abilities and is reliable. In short: You are someone who gets the job done!
